Lane Bridge A1-M1 link up project.
The bridge in the picture is a
74m span motorway overbridge total weight 1575 tons, which has moved 21m
in 4.5 hours to its final position, the bridge was lowered 300mm onto the
permanent bearings, the photograph was taken from the road where it used
to be!
Some
interesting facts.
The bridge was moved on 8.250 ton
capacity rollers running on mild steel tracks. using 3.40 ton capacity
hydraulic pushing units, controlled and monitored from a central point.
Total force required to move the bridge 57 tons. The motorway was closed
during the move, but open during the lowering operation.

Jacking of a 2 ton tomb lid under
a church in the midlands
Installation of all the heavyitems in a new
C.H.P. plant in central London, which involved the moving and lowering of
up to 60ft, of 10 heavy items.
Jacking up of existing steel frame
factory unit by 2m so a second floor could be built.
